Inspired by two seperate events:
One thing I love about the work I do is that when you say you work with, in or around museums always inspires a museum related anecdote. Sometimes, I feel I have to apologise and sometimes I feel I should defend the very foundations of what makes museums wonderful. On this particular Wednesday, I was rendered silent.
I asked the chap in question if he was enjoying his visit, and he announced that he was no longer a member of the National Trust, as he was unable to take his cat to the properties. He was now a member of English Heritage as they were much more open minded about you bringing you Siamese.
The second incident was a ferret in B&Q in Leeds. As the ferret shot around the tile section the whole of the store became involved with how great it was to see a ferret in B&Q. Questions like why was he there? how did he get there? was he buying tiles for the kitchen or bathroom? It reminded me of the same feeling as when a dog would get into school. Everyone would remember the day the dog got into school and talk about it for time to come.
So, I know there are operational, health and safety, conservation issues - but for one day only wouldn't it be great to have bring your pets to museums day?
I just had a flash back to theĀ episode of the Vicar of Dibley.
